im pretty new to photography, but my question is when shooting with lets say a nikon d40 w/ the lens kit can you produce this kind of shot or is it from a lens lower than 18 mm that can achieve it?

on a crop body you will need a wider lens than 18mm. nikon's "crop factor" is a multiplaction of 1.5 vs the focal length the lens would be on a full frame camera (ie the D700). on a D700, 18mm = 18mm, but on your D40, 18mm looks like what 27mm would look like on a full frame. you need something in the 10-15mm range to get a true "ultra wide angle" view of the scene withought going fisheye

Shot with a kit lens and stitched together in photoshop or hugin, dont remember which one.
cool thanks for the info. do you guys know of any site that sells a lens anywhere from 10mm to 24mm price range of 400 or less?
Not really sure but I'm sure if you did a "nikon 10mm" search on B&H or where ever, it would narrow your search down

It could be from a 200mm lens for all you really know though. If there is enough line of sight, etc.
I'd assume it's a wide angle though, but it's hard to know.
I always used the 12-24 on my D50/D200 and had no problems.
buy my 10-24..![]()
I am sure I could pull that shot off with my Tamron 17-50mm, even with a crop sensor. just take a few steps further back and anything shot can be as wide as u want it to be lol.
