whats a good wide or ultra wide prime?

i dont need anything too crazy (just yet=P ) but i am looking for a decent wide angle for my d700 for landscapes when i go onto vacation as i am going to start my first of 6 for the next year. doesnt have to be fast but at least good CA handling lol. i hate CA
    any suggestions?

cant go wrong with the 20mm 2.8. im an ultra wide kinda guy so id probably go with the 14-24 to have the best of both worlds but it is a $1800 lens. i think the 20mm is a good choice; under $600 and wide enough for most people

17-35 f/2.8 is a stellar lens. All depends if you want rime or zoom. Primes will be cheaper. I've never used the 16-35 so I can't comment on it.

    i totally agree - the 20mm 2.8 + D700 is a great combo. highly recommended, and the 20mm won't break the bank.

If you're looking for a cheap zoom, the Nikkor 18-35mm 3.5-4.5 is a decent lens (and I have one I'll sell ya!). You could always get the monster 24mm 1.4 j/k.

Nope the 18-35mm 3.5-4.5 is a ff, I used it on my D700. SitAndWatch uses one on his D700 as well.

    Personally, 17-35.
For my landscapes, I want wide. and 99% of the time I don't want a prime.

    lol @ 24 1.4 suggestion

understand that but not looking for the 17-35 for that cash id be happier getting a 135 f2 or something in the longer end. i just want something to settle me for landscapes and like u i do like widdeeeee if i am going to shoot landscapes. ill probably end up either just getting a sigma fisheye which i love and using the distortion correction software for non fisheye shots haha

I may get flamed for this, but I recently bought a Sigma 14mm ƒ2.8 and I love it, it was pretty cheap, and the colors are fantastic. It's really sharp @ ƒ2.8 on the center, but you do have to stop down a bit to get the edges really sharp.

^^ No reason to flame here. I used to own the Sigma 14mm 3.5 Rectilinear Lens (not fisheye so lines stay straight) and really liked it on my D300. I'm sure it would work fine on a D700, but that would be really really wide. Definitely a nice lens though
