Portable steady pole for car rig.

I have a 10' piece of aluminum conduit that I bought for a car rig. Well last Friday I traded my Pathfinder in on a Jetta GLI and a 10' piece of aluminum is definitely not fitting in that thing.

Does anyone have suggestions on other alternatives or perhaps a DIY to cut the pole into sections and create connectors to hold it together.

Find some super strong shock cord, a couple washers, some PVC that barely fits over the ends of your pole, PVC end caps that fit snug. Cut pole small enough to fit in your desired space and de-burr the edges, cut 3" sections of PVC and glue one end of PVC to the pole, allowing the other to slide out at will. I recommend JB weld. Then stretch shock cord out to test how long it should be, you want it to be able to stretch enough that your pole will collapse easily but have enough tension to keep it together when it's fully assembled. Drill holes in the end caps just large enough for the shock cord to fit through, then thread it through and knot the ends on the washers. Now you should have what amounts to basically a giant tent pole... that's what I'd do.

F yeah. Looks like a trip to Home Depot is in order this weekend.

At least I won't flake on my own scheduled car shoots.

well you can find some one who has a pipe threader and cut accordingly. if you know any plumbers they will have what you need. then you find connections so that they thread together and can be unthreaded when you want to transport

The threaded option would probably be more sturdy... but a bigger PITA to assemble. If you get military shock cord it'd probably be almost as sturdy ... I've never boom rigged a camera so I don't know how much weight and leverage are involved. If you try the cord way and it doesn't work you can always thread it afterwords. How thick is the aluminum?

I found Aluminum extension poles for concrete work at Home Depot and they worked fairly well. A little bouncy but I have nothing to compare it to. >Click Here For Link<

    Got one.

This is with just two sections. I have a third, but I wanted to test it out first.

    Things I learned:
    1.)My sensor is dirty.
2.)I need to make an adjustable ND filter.
